Most healthcare looks at your symptoms. We look at how well your nervous system is actually running — region by region — and give you a number for it: your NeuroSync Efficiency Index.

Your brain isn’t one thing doing one job. It’s a set of regions, each running a different part of you — your balance, your digestion, your focus, your stress response, your sleep.

When one of those regions is working inefficiently, you feel it, even if a blood test or an X-ray looks “normal.” At The Wellness Path, we built the NeuroSync approach around a simple idea: instead of guessing, let’s measure how each of these regions is functioning — and then track it as it improves. That measurement is your NeuroSync Efficiency Index (NEI).

How we measure it

You feel it — you don’t just trust a printout

Here’s what makes this different. A lot of practices hand you a scan result and ask you to trust a number on a screen. We do the opposite. Instead of plugging you into a machine, we test the remarkable technology you already carry inside you — and you feel the findings in real time.

When your eyes can’t smoothly track a moving target, you notice it. When you can’t hold your balance with your eyes closed, you feel it. When one side of your body coordinates differently than the other, it’s obvious the moment we test it. That’s the point: you experience what’s working well and what isn’t, right there in the room. You’re not asked to take a report on faith.

Think of it like running diagnostics on a computer. We are not guessing at what is wrong — we are checking each part of the system to see what is running well, what is lagging, and what is straining to keep up. Built on years of studying functional and chiropractic neurology and more than 15 years of clinical experience, here is what we are looking at:

  • How your system takes in information — we check how quickly and accurately your body registers what is happening around it, and whether the signals are getting through cleanly.
  • How well it holds itself steady — balance and posture depend on several regions talking to each other in real time. When that conversation breaks down, you feel it immediately.
  • How smoothly it coordinates — we look at timing and control, and whether one side of your body is working noticeably harder than the other.
  • How it manages stress and recovery — your breathing and automatic responses tell us how well your system shifts between working hard and settling down.
  • How efficiently it responds — quick checks of your reflexes show us how fast and how cleanly signals are traveling.

Each finding maps back to one or more of the seven regions below. Together, they give us a picture of where your nervous system is efficient and where it’s compensating — and that picture becomes your NEI.

What the score means

A tracking score, not a brain scan

Each region gets a percentage based on how efficiently it performed on valid, safe tests — not a guess, and not a readout from a machine. It’s a clinical tracking score: a way to organize what we found in the room, spot the regions carrying the most inefficiency, and see whether they’re getting better as your care progresses.

It’s not a brain scan, an IQ score, or a medical diagnosis — and it isn’t a literal reading of what percentage of your brain is “working.” It’s a percentage of how well that region performed on the specific things we tested, compared to what we’d expect. A lower score means we found more room to work with. A higher score means that region is running clean.

That’s also why we retest. Your NEI isn’t just a snapshot — it’s a baseline we come back to, region by region, to see what’s actually changing.

The seven regions we assess

Each region controls a different part of how you move, think, feel, and recover. Together they give us a full picture of where your nervous system is strong and where it needs support.

1. Brainstem

Controls

Your most automatic survival functions and baseline alertness — heart rate, breathing rhythm, digestion, swallowing, and the “on switch” that keeps your whole brain awake and engaged. We check this through cranial-nerve responses and reflexes. A finding here doesn’t diagnose a disease — it tells us where your foundation needs support first.

2. Vestibular System

Controls

Balance, spatial orientation, posture against gravity, and coordination between your inner ear and your eyes. We test this with eye-tracking and balance challenges — the moment your eyes can’t smoothly follow a target, it’s obvious in the room.

3. Autonomic System

Controls

The automatic balance between your stress response and your recovery mode: heart rate variability, digestion, immune tone, and how well you shift out of fight-or-flight into rest and repair. We check this through breathing patterns and automatic responses that are hard to fake.

4. Left Cerebellum

Controls

Coordination, timing, and muscle tone on this side of your body, working with the opposite side of the cortex to keep movement and thought smooth and organized. We test timing, targeting, and side-to-side differences directly.

5. Right Cerebellum

Controls

The same coordination, timing, and postural stability as its counterpart, paired with the opposite cortex. Right and left are always compared, never scored in isolation.

6. Left Cortex

Controls

Detail, language, logic, and sequencing — the step-by-step, analytical side of how you process the world. Findings here are functional, not diagnostic: they tell us where to prioritize, not what condition you have.

7. Right Cortex

Controls

The big picture: spatial awareness, social and emotional processing, attention, and reading the overall context of a situation. Like the left cortex, we’re tracking function, not making a diagnosis.

Why the exam changes by age

Why We Don’t Score All Seven Centers at Every Age

Not every nervous system is ready for the same seven-way comparison. A newborn’s nervous system isn’t a smaller version of an adult’s — it’s still assembling itself. So we don’t force an infant or toddler through the same left/right cortex and cerebellum breakdown we use for a school-age child or adult. Doing that would turn normal, rapidly-changing development into a false claim about brain-side weakness.

Instead, the assessment is age-matched:

Infants (0–12 months) are tracked on six developmental core results — primitive reflexes, postural reactions, tone, developmental skills, brainstem/cranial-nerve responses, and autonomic regulation. No cortex or cerebellum scores yet.

Ages 1–4 use that same six-result structure, with laterality and coordination tracked separately rather than folded into a hemisphere score.

Ages 5–9 are the first age where we map the full seven centers above, alongside a separate score for reflex and postural development, so we’re never counting the same finding twice.

Prenatal patients get two separate scores — a seven-center neurological baseline and a distinct Webster/pelvic function score — never blended into one number.

Every age gets a real baseline. It just isn’t the same baseline.

What your NEI score means

For each region, we score how efficiently it’s functioning as a percentage. That percentage falls into one of five tiers — and this is what we track over time as your care progresses.

0–29%
Significant Findings
Findings that stand out; a priority for reassessment and clinician review.
30–49%
Marked Findings
Noticeable inefficiency; a priority area for care.
50–69%
Compensating
Moderate findings; your system is working around something.

What is the NeuroSync Efficiency Index (NEI)?

The NEI is a percentage score, taken for each of seven key brain regions, that reflects how efficiently your nervous system is functioning. We establish it through a hands-on functional neurological exam and use it to track your progress over the course of care.

Do you use a scanner or imaging to get the score?

What are the seven regions you assess?
