Prenatal Chiropractic & Webster Technique in East Tennessee | The Wellness Path

What to Expect at Your First Prenatal Chiropractic Visit

Teen receiving chiropractic care for anxiety at The Wellness Path in Knoxville TN

Pregnancy changes everything — including what your nervous system needs. Whether you’re newly pregnant or further along, prenatal chiropractic care at The Wellness Path is trimester-specific and designed to support both you and your baby from the inside out.

At The Wellness Path, prenatal care is not one-size-fits-all. What we focus on shifts with each trimester — because your body’s needs shift too. Dr. Vic is Webster Technique certified and works with expecting moms throughout all three trimesters.

How Care Changes by Trimester

First Trimester

Care is entirely neurologically focused. The Webster Technique is not introduced yet. The priority is getting your nervous system as balanced and adaptive as possible — which is the foundation everything else builds on. Moms who start care in the first trimester typically need far less intervention later.

Second Trimester

We continue with neuro-focused care. Toward the end of the second trimester, Dr. Vic begins evaluating from a Webster perspective — assessing pelvic alignment and soft tissue balance — and introduces those elements as needed.

Third Trimester

Starting around weeks 24–26 (or sooner if issues arise), we bring in the full Webster Technique along with soft tissue work. This is when structural preparation for birth becomes the primary focus alongside continued neurological support.

Throughout all three trimesters, Dr. Vic uses Torque Release Technique — a gentle, instrument-based adjusting approach that is safe and effective at every stage of pregnancy.

Your First Visit: Step by Step

First Visit: 30–45 minutes  |  Day 2 (Report of Findings): 15–20 minutes

Step 1 — In-Depth Health History, Consultation & Goals

Dr. Vic begins with a thorough consultation that goes beyond symptoms. He wants to understand your current health picture and pregnancy history, how you’re feeling physically and neurologically, your goals for this pregnancy, your goals for your birth experience, and any concerns you’re already navigating.

Prenatal care at The Wellness Path is designed to support you in having the healthiest, most empowered pregnancy and birth experience possible — and that starts with understanding what you want.

Step 2 — Neuro Foundational Assessment & Webster Evaluation

Following the consultation, Dr. Vic performs a neurological assessment to understand how your nervous system is functioning — its adaptability, stress load, and any areas of imbalance. Depending on your trimester, he’ll also assess pelvic alignment, sacral position, and the surrounding soft tissues to build a framework for what may develop as your pregnancy progresses.

Step 3 — INSiGHT Neurological Scans

Dr. Vic uses the INSiGHT neurological scanning system to get an objective picture of your nervous system. All scans are completely safe during pregnancy — non-invasive, no electricity, no radiation.

Step 4 — Chiropractic Exam

Dr. Vic completes Day 1 with a chiropractic examination assessing the spine and pelvis in the context of your pregnancy, trimester, and the neurological findings.

Day 2 — Your Report of Findings (15–20 minutes)

Dr. Vic reviews all findings and presents a clear, personalized care plan: what was found in plain language, recommendations and how care will evolve across trimesters, frequency specific to your situation and goals, and investment — clearly outlined with no surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Yes — when performed by a Webster-certified, prenatal-trained chiropractor. Dr. Vic is certified in the Webster Technique through the ICPA and has extensive experience working with pregnant women across all trimesters. The techniques used during pregnancy are gentle, position-appropriate, and adapted for each stage.

What is Webster Technique?

Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment approach for pregnant women, focused on the sacrum and pelvis. It’s designed to optimize pelvic alignment and reduce tension in the surrounding ligaments and muscles — creating the best possible environment for labor and delivery and supporting the baby’s ability to move into an optimal position for birth.

When should I start prenatal chiropractic care?

As early in your pregnancy as possible — ideally in the first trimester. Starting early allows us to build a strong neurological foundation and address any imbalances before they become more established. Moms who start in the first trimester typically need far less intervention in the third. That said, it is never too late — we see patients in all trimesters and there is always meaningful work to be done.

Is it too late to start in my third trimester?

No. We regularly see new patients in their third trimester and can still provide meaningful care. The focus will be on Webster Technique, soft tissue work, and neurological support — helping prepare your body for birth in the time remaining. Starting earlier is better, but starting now is better than not starting.

Will the adjustment harm my baby?

No. The adjustments used during pregnancy are gentle and specifically adapted to avoid any pressure on the abdomen. Torque Release Technique — our primary approach throughout pregnancy — is an instrument-based method that delivers a precise, low-force input. There is no twisting or thrusting involved.

What position will I be in during the adjustment?

Dr. Vic uses positioning that is safe and comfortable for each trimester. You will not be placed face-down with pressure on your abdomen. Positioning is adapted throughout pregnancy as your body changes.

Can chiropractic care help with back pain and sciatica during pregnancy?

Yes. Pelvic imbalance and increased spinal load during pregnancy are very common causes of lower back pain, hip pain, and sciatic nerve discomfort. Webster Technique and neurological care together address both the structural and nervous system components of this discomfort.

Can you help if my baby is in a breech position?

Webster Technique is not a breech-turning technique — but by optimizing pelvic alignment and reducing tension in the round ligaments and uterine attachments, it removes structural barriers that may be limiting the baby’s movement. Many moms see their baby move to an optimal position during a course of Webster care, though results vary.

Are the INSiGHT scans safe during pregnancy?

Completely. The HRV, Surface EMG, and Thermal scans are non-invasive — sensors measure electrical activity, temperature, and heart rate from the surface of the body. No electricity passes through the body. They are safe at every stage of pregnancy.

How often should I come during pregnancy?

Frequency depends on your trimester, your nervous system findings, and your goals. Dr. Vic will outline a specific recommendation on Day 2. In general, the third trimester (with Webster and soft tissue work) typically calls for more consistent care as birth approaches.
